Music recital

The 2007 Music Recital presented by students of Angela Joiner, Edmund Burke Academy music director, will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Greenfork Baptist Church, located on the Burke/Jenkins County line in Perkins.

Admission is free and the public is invited.

Letter carriers' food

drive

The National Association of Letter Carriers will sponsor the nation's largest single-day food drive, "Stamp Out Hunger," Saturday, May 12.

Area postal patrons are asked to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods like canned soups, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailboxes before the time of regular mail delivery. The mail carriers will collect the donations and deliver them to food banks and pantries in the local community. More than 10,000 cities and towns across all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions will participate in the program.

Smith and Jones

A concert by Smith and Jones will be presented at the Old Pal Theater on Cotton Avenue 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12. The program will feature rock and roll music from the last 40 years. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children. They are available at the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce or at the door on the night of the event.
