Jenkins County High School Boys track team wins fifth consecutive title

The 2007 Eagle Squad had a spectacular day on Friday, April 20, as they came from behind Claxton and Bryan counties to dominate the Region 3A track meet.

"This year's squad is full of guys that are committed to doing whatever it takes to get better," coach Charley Waters said with pride. "It showed through the whole season and especially today."

Waters said this has been a long year and track season for the team. "We have been working toward the region and state meet since last year's state meet was over," he said, adding that his team began the season with two goals - to win their fifth straight region championship and to win state. "We accomplished our first goal and our focus is now on the state championship."

The Eagles will compete for that title May 10-12 in Jefferson.

"The guys would love to see some folks from Millen there to watch them compete against the best in the state," Waters said. "Jenkins County can be very proud of this team."
