The fight against cancer will be taken up locally this weekend when the annual Jenkins County Relay for Life (RFL) gets underway Friday, May 18, at 7 p.m. continuing until 7 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Jenkins County Recreation Department complex.
RFLis the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for cancer research, prevention and early detection. Participants form teams, raise money through a variety of activities and walk non-stop "because cancer doesn't sleep."
Local businesses have joined the battle against cancer by donating proceeds to the event.
On Friday, the day of the event, Subway of Millen will donate all proceeds from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to the RFL. The Dairy Queen will be donating proceeds of Tuesday, May 15, and Wednesday, May 16, from the hours of 5 p.m. until closing to the RLF. The local BI-LO store made a donation to the RFLFriday, May 11.
RFLrepresents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
