Camp 2102 holds memoriam The Buckhead-Fort Lawton Brigade, Camp 2102 held its second annual Confederate History Month memorial program Sunday, April 29, on the front lawn of the Jenkins County Courthouse. Members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Order of Robert E. Lee and other neighboring camps took part in the ceremony. The Rev. James Cavanah of Rincon gave the keynote address to a small but appreciative crowd of 35. Rev. Cavanah serves as chief chaplain for the Georgia Division and for the Army of Tennessee in the national organization. His message was on the 200th anniversary of the birth of General Robert E. Lee and the spirit of revival in the Confederate armies during the war. In addition to the keynote address, camp commander Darryl Drake welcomed those in attendance; camp champlain Bryon Newton gave the invocation; 1st lieutenant commander Ray Garvin read the charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans; and adjutant Scottie Scott read the roll call of honor. A special ceremony retiring cemeterial flags that have flown over the gravesites of Jenkins County Confederates was also part of the program. The ladies of Camp 2102 sponsored a social following the event, highlighting the cake made by compatriot Rodney Williams' wife, Leslie. |
