The North Jenkins County Volunteer Fire Department represented all Millen and Jenkins County firefighters recently in one of the largest disasters in the state.

On May 15, NJCVD firefighters were deployed to Waycross for nine days as they joined Georgia Forestry personnel in fighting the largest fire in Georgia's history. The new 3,000-gallon tanker and its crew served on a strike team, providing water for several other engines.

At the time of deployment, the fire had involved more than 400,000 acres in Georgia and 150,000 acres in northern Florida.
