Market Day kicks off June 2 Saturday, June 2, will be the first Market Day of the summer. The market will be open 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday June through mid-September. It will be located on the east end of Cotton Avenue, across from Regions Bank in what has been named "The Cotton Market." The product focus will be fresh produce, but other items may be marketed such as flow- ers, crafts, baked goods and flea market and yard sale items. There will be no charge for spaces, and spaces will be assigned on a first-come, firstserved, basis. EBT (food stamps) and WIC vouchers will be accepted by some vendors. Street vendors should be aware that the City of Millen has approved a Street Vendor Ordinance that prohibits street sales within the city without a Peddler's Permit which costs $100 annually. Following purchase of the permit, vendors may only conduct business on the site of The Cotton Market, unless the vendor has written permission from a property owner to locate on private property. The ordinance will be enforced by the Millen Police Department. The Millen Rotary Club has made improvements to the site of The Cotton Market, including a paved walk and landscaping. The club's goal is to provide a pleasant place for the community to sell and shop in the downtown area. Market Day is sponsored by Millen Better Hometown and the Millen/Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call (478) 982-5595. |
