 | | Each year 4-H'ers receive points based on the activities they participate in. At the end of the year, all points are tallied up and the male and female of each grade division with the highest amount receives the honor of being 4-H'er of the Year. This year we had a tie for cloverleaf male 4-H'er of the year. Back Row: LaVonte Lovette; junior male, Tyler Taylor and Brandon Cherry; cloverleaf males (tie). Adam Lanier; senior male. The guest list includes local and state dignitaries, and even the governor himself!
In less than two weeks, the Guido Evangelistic Association will host a 50th anniversary celebration for the whole family.
On Sunday, June 10, guests will gather at 3 p.m. under a 2000-man tent provided by Ranco of Statesboro for an afternoon of praise and worship highlighted by the appearance of Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue.
Scheduled noted performers include The Encouragers, the LeFevre Quartet, Archie Jordan and Chris and Cindy Hess. Speaking, in addition to Gov. Perdue, will be Sonny Dixon of WTOC Channel 11 and Mayor Billy Trapnell, along with other supporters of the ministry.
The Sower, Dr. Michael Guido, will give the afternoon's sermon before the installation of his younger brother and successor to the ministry, Dr. Larry Guido. Refreshments will be served following Sunday's service.
However, before Sunday's program, the Guidos and the staff of Guido Evangelistic Association want to thank the community for its support in a special celebration, which will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, June 9.
The Dixie Guards, Sons of Confederate Veterans, will provide an array of children's activities including bounce houses and slides.
Featured entertainers for the morning include the street ministry of Open Door Worship Center; the Cedar Street Praise Team and Boys Quartet; Just Rejoice, the Believer's Center Choir of Statesboro; puppeteer Michael Dant; and puppeteer Billy Holloway who will share "Seeds from the Sower" with his famous Michael Guido puppet.
Additionally, friends and family can tour the gardens including the empty tomb, the carpenter's shop and the prayer chapel, and can visit the warehouse where a museum/tribute will be set up. There family and friends can learn about the mission of the Guido ministry and about the development of the association including its radio, television and print outreach programs. A number of local churches will set up tents at the gardens as well, offering literature and information about their church and answering any questions from guests.
The celebration will conclude on Saturday, June 9, with a hot dog dinner provided by Randy Nesmith of RJ's Steakery in Statesboro and soft drinks and water provided by Coca Cola.
In keeping with the faithbased mission of the association, there is no charge for participation in any of the services or programs.
