The St. Jude Math-a-Thon event, coordinated by Erika Van Buren, was held at the Jenkins County Elementary School during the month of April. During this time, participating students throughout the school were encouraged to find sponsors. By sponsoring the participating students during this event the community helped make it possible for our school to help raise funds for the world's pediatric cancer research center.

The goal was to help the children of the world who are stricken with diseases like cancer, AIDS, sickle cell disease and other catastrophic illnesses.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, and based in Memphis, Tenn., St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.

St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC®, its fundraising organization, through events such as Math-A-Thon.

All of the funds raised by JCES students will go toward helping St. Jude find cures as well as treatments that will help children all over the world.

The students were able to raise $1,773.87. Those recognized for raising the most money were as follows: Amber Lowe raised $143.80; Doná Gay, $143; and Nicole Wilson, $95. These were just a few of the students who participated in the event.
