L. Eldon Herrington, 84, of Sylvania died May 30

Loyd Eldon Herrington, 84, of Sylvania died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at University Hospital in Augusta.

Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Thompson- Strickland-Waters Chapel with the Revs. Christy Bandy and Bill Jones officiating.

Burial followed at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Herrington was a Screven County native and a retired farmer. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and an Army veteran of WWII.

He was also a member of the American Legion and the Harmony UMC Men's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Elva Taylor Herrington of Sylvania; daughter and son-in-law; Lora and Johnny Collins of Statesboro; son and daughter-in-law; Lloyd W. and Anna Herrington; step-daughters and sons-in-law; Elva and Pete Mills of Millen and Helen and Billy Smith of Chapin, S.C.; step-son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jenny Clifton of Danielsville; four grandchildren, Jessica Collins, Tyler Collins, Colby Herrington and Bryson Herrington; six step-grandchildren, Tarry Mills Hodges, Julie Mills Cates, Billy Smith, DeEtte Smith Aull, Amy Clifton Christianson and Angie Clifton Emery; nine greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Charles Royal, Larry Royal, Buddy Herrington, Billy Herrington, Don Waters and Jeremy Herrington. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Harmony United Methodist Church Men's Club.
