Margaret Barnett, 82, of Augusta died June 6

Mrs. Margaret Lightfoot Barnett, 82, of Augusta passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, with the Rev. Grady Wigley of Athens officiating.

Mrs. Barnett was born in Millen on Jan. 19, 1925, the daughter of Ruth Rocker and George W. Lightfoot Sr.

She graduated from Millen High School in 1942 as valedictorian of her class. She attended GSCW in Milledgeville.

She worked many years as a secretary for a stockbroker in Athens, and she was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John UMC, Augusta, and the Elks Ladies' Auxiliary, and she was a Pink Lady at St. Mary's Hospital for a number of years.

She married Aurelius P. Barnett Nov. 22, 1946 and had a daughter, Peggy Barnett Carithers, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, A.P. Barnett of Augusta; two grandsons, William and Graham Carithers, both of Brunswick; a sister, Betty Wiggins of Augusta; a niece and a nephew, Joan and Robert Mills; a nephew, Stewart Wiggins; and two great-nieces, Ashlyn Wiggins and Kayla Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.

Hopkins Funeral Home, Washington, was in charge of arrangements.
