Local roads to get striping The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced last week that two Jenkins County roads are included in a 327-mile striping contract awarded May 18 to Peek Pavement Markings of Columbus for $1,361,225. The contract will improve road markings on 46 roads in 18 counties. In Jenkins County, Old Perkins Road will get 6.24 miles of striping, and Perkins- Greenfork Road will receive 6.73 miles. GDOT engineers researched crashes on city streets and county roads to determine the frequency and severity of crashes. Roads were then selected for the striping project based upon that research. Eighteen feet wide roads will get new center lines, 20 feet wide roads will get new centerlines and edgelines and roads wider than 20 feet will get centerlines, edgelines and raised pavement markers. "You can't even see the centerlines on some of these roads. I am confident this program will improve safety, and I'm proud to have committed $10 million statewide to this effort in our rural areas, explained DOT Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl. |
