Patriotic festivities planned for July 7

Millen Better Hometown and the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the sixth annual "Patriotic Celebration," Saturday, July 7, at the Millen/Jenkins County Recreation Department complex. Activities will include fireworks, musical entertainment and activities for children.

The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. with music and rides for children. At 8 p.m. there will be a Patriotic Kiddie Parade. Children under the age of eight are encouraged to dress in their patriotic best, decorate their non-motorized vehicles and ride in the parade. Prizes will be given for the most patriotic costume and decorated vehicle.

A brief patriotic ceremony will begin at 8:15 p.m., followed by more music and fireworks.

The public is invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, picnic dinners and friends to enjoy a fun-filled evening. Admission is free. A concession stand will be open, and there will be a Most Patriotic Picnic Area prize.

Financial contributions are being sought to sponsor the fireworks. Anyone who would like to donate can call the chamber office at 982-5595.
