Honor's Night held at JCES

Jenkins County Elementary School (JCES) held its annual Honor's Night on Tuesday, May 22. Several awards were presented by Dr. Judy Holton, principal, assistant principals Cynthia McNeely and Debbie Fountain and faculty members. Awards were presented to students who achieved academically, physically, and socially.

Awards were presented for citizenship, art, music, physical education, computer lab, scholarship, Principal's award, Braves Straight A, spelling bee, Accelerated Reader (AR), perfect attendance and the President's Education Award.

Character education awards were presented each nine weeks, compliments of Huddle House of Millen. In addition, Dairy Queen provided ice cream certificates to students having perfect attendance each nine-week grading period.

Over 500 awards were presented to approximately 328 students.

Students earning 125 points or more in AR were presented a Tshirt, in addition to their certificate. Top classes earning the most Accelerated Reader points for the school year were: Patricia Frye's first grade with 1,579 points; Ivelyn Cobb's second grade with 2,638 points; Angie Brantley's third grade with 1,294 points; Jimmy Brannen's fourth grade with 1,465 points; and Jancey Brinson's fifth grade with 1,926 points.

The Top Accelerated Reader Award was received by Colton Sharkey.
The top reader was recognized at each grade level. Students earning the most AR points for each grade were: Keyasia Johnson, 149 points; Taylor Cocke, 360 points; Chelsea Jones, 139 points; Colton Sharkey, 425 points; and Trent Lindsey with 221 points.

Sharkey was also presented a states quarter collection, compliments of Queensborough National Bank and Trust, for earning the most AR points in the school.

JCES exceeded their school goal of 30,000 points in AR for the year.

The audience enjoyed several song selections presented by the fifth grade, led by Lisa Wiggins.

Certificates were custom made by Marie Taylor.

Dr. Holton commended all students for a great job and encouraged them to continue their excellent work.
