Head Start accepting

applications

CSRA EOA, Inc. Head Start will be accepting applications for children who will be 3 years of age by Sept. 1, 2007 and 4 years of age by Dec. 31, 2007.

This comprehensive child development program provides quality services for the whole family. The program offers medical and dental examinations, mental health services, transportation, transition practices, nutrition experiences, social services and opportunities for parental involvement. All services are provided in an educational environment that assures these children will meet the challenges of the 21st century. All services are free to qualified applicants.

Applications may be obtained 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. each Monday through Friday at Jenkins County Head Start, 432 Cleveland Ave., Millen. The telephone number is (478) 982-4485.

The following information is requested to process applications: certified birth certificate, verifications of income for the last 12 months (W-2 form, copy of last income tax return, TANF/food stamp letter, social security benefit letter) and child immunization certificate shot record (Georgia form 3231.)

GED registration

Swainsboro Technical College (STC) will hold GED registration for July GED day and evening testing. The GED examination will be given at STC. Registration is required prior to testing.

Registration will be held on Monday, July 9, at 9 a.m. in building #8 and at 6 p.m. in building #1. A picture identification and social security card must be presented and the $95 test fee is due at registration.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. If applicants are 18 or 19 years old, an official withdrawal from the last school attended must be presented at registration.

reveiw test offered

This summer, Jenkins County High School (JCHS) will offer remedial instruction in science, social studies, language arts and math on the high school campus.

Instruction during the summer will include a one-week review course for each section of the test. The review will last for two hours each day and will be taught by a high school teacher.

The review is free to all students and former students who exited JCHS with a Certificate of Performance. The review dates are Monday, July 9, through Friday, July 13. Each review session is scheduled as follows: 8 a.m. - 10 a.m., science; 10 a.m. - noon, social stud- ies; 1 p.m. - 3 p.m., math; and 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., English.

The re-test for each section will take place on the following dates at 8:30 a.m. each morning at JCHS: Wednesday, July 11, writing test; Monday, July 16, science test; Tuesday, July 17, social studies; Wednesday, July 18, language arts (English); Thursday, July 19, math; and Friday, July 20, make-up day.

Ruth Hearn, high school counselor, encourages all students to attend the review sessions each day. Statistics have proven that students who attend the review have a higher chance of passing the re-test.
