12 sex offenders registered in Jenkins

Georgia law requires that convicted sex offenders register at their county of residence, county of employment and county where attending school. If an offender moves to another county in the State of Georgia, he/she is required to register with the sheriff of his/her new county of residence in addition to notifying the sheriff of his/her previous county of residence.

According to information available on the Georgia Bureau of Investigation website, Jenkins County has 12 registered sex offenders. They are as follows:

• Leodis Burke, 1136 Jeanette Drive, convicted of sexual battery, 1989.

• Juanna Symones Enriquez, 428 Riverview Avenue, convicted of sexual battery, 2002.

• George Washington Fowler, 1893 Mockingbird Road, Perkins, convicted of incest, 1999.

• Michael Knight, 119 Bob Drive, convicted of rape child molestation, 1991.

• Lee Antonio Lassister, 827 Sullivan Circle, convicted of statutory rape, 2005.

• Anthony McGee, Highway 25 South, convicted of sexual battery, 2002.

• Leonard Mitchell, 1133 Jeanette Dr., convicted of child molestation, 1994.

• Danny Lee Nesmith, 1038 Hiltonia Road, convicted of child molestation, 2002.

• Ralph Benton Palmore, 650 Parrish Burke Rd., convicted of child molestation, 1999.

• Jerome Ryals, 4178 Hwy. 23 South, convicted of child molestation, 1994.

• Joseph A. Watson, 539 Alma Road, convicted of child molestation, 2002.

• Eddie James Wells Sr., 564 Martin Luther Avenue, convicted of child molestation, 2002.

New laws went into effect July 2006 concerning sex offenders. Some of the provisions mandated include the following: removes first offender status and the ability for a judge to probate a sentence for most sex crimes; requires that sex offender cannot loiter within 1,000 feet of a childcare facility, school, church or area where minors congregate, including school bus stops and public swimming pools; requires that a sex offender cannot work within 1,000 feet of a childcare facility, school or church; requires that sheriffs provide sex offender information to campus police and schools; requires posting of the list of sex offenders in each county in the sheriff's office, county administrative building, main administrative building for municipal corporation, office of the clerk of superior court and on a website maintained by the sheriff; requires registration for life for all convicted sex offenders except those handled in juvenile court and misdemeanors; and reduces the registration time frame to 72 hours from 10 days.
