Make your car a life saver Do the repairs on that old car of yours have you sinking farther and farther into debt? Before it takes you down, donate the vehicle - running or not - to the National Kidney Foundation of Georgia's (NKFG) Kidney Cars program. Not only will you save yourself money, but you will also be supporting the life-saving programs and services offered by NKFG to kidney patients, transplant recipients, family members, organ donor families and health care professionals throughout the state. The process is simple. All you need to do is call 1(800) 488- CARS (2277.) You will be mailed a packet, complete with a self-addressed envelope to return your signed title and odometer statement. Once your completed materials are received, you will be contacted to arrange for free towing of your vehicle. Vehicles are sold at auction, with all proceeds benefiting the NKFG. For those who are computersavvy, you can even donate your vehicle online. Just visit the NKFG website, www.kidneyga.org, click on the "kidney cars" icon and follow the directions listed. For tax purposes, donors receive a letter acknowledging their gift; donors are encouraged to check with their tax advisors regarding the tax deduction for which they are eligible. The NKFG has a threefold mission: to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases; to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases; and to increase the availability of all organs for transplantation. |
