Schools to hold open house

All Jenkins County Schools will open their doors to students, parents and the community 1-3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3. Parents are encouraged to attend, as this is an opportunity for them and their children to meet their children's teachers for the 2007-08 school year.

A Freshman Academy orientation for those students entering the ninth grade will be held at 9 a.m. until noon Friday, Aug. 3, in the Jenkins County Middle/ High School Cafeteria.

As per board policy, clear or mesh book bags are required. For parents' convenience, a limited number of clear book bags will be available for purchase at the Jenkins County Elementary School media center. Rolling book bags are not allowed unless annual written documentation from a physician has been obtained.

Students who have health issues and/or takes medication while at school, should please bring the medication with them to open house and allow time to meet with the school nurse to discuss medical needs.

Registration for students "new" to the Jenkins County School System will be held at all three schools 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Parents will need to bring an immunization record, certified copy of birth certificate, eye, ear and dental report, social security card, report card or school records from previous school.

All Jenkins County Schools participate in a Universal Food Program whereby all students receive a free breakfast and lunch. However, breakfast will not be served the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 6.

School insurance may be purchased through the individual schools.

School supply lists are available in local businesses as well as at the school sites.
