NJCVFD awarded $132,516 grant
Money to be used to purchase brush truck, breathing air packs

Twelfth District Congressman John Barrow announced last week that the North Jenkins County Volunteer Fire Department (NJCVFD) has been awarded a $132,516 grant from the United States Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP).

The grant will help purchase a brush truck that will be used in fighting wildfires and as a first response vehicle. The remaining funds will be used to purchase updated breathing air packs, as well as the system needed to safely refill the air packs.

"Volunteer firefighters give their time, day and night, to keep our communities safe," Barrow said. "This grant will help protect our local firefighters when they're on the job protecting us."

The Operations and Firefighter Safety Program is administered through the AFGP and provides supplemental funds to promote firefighters' health and safety through training programs, to purchase equipment and to fund modifications to facilities. The Vehicle Acquisition Program, also administered through the AFGP, provides funds for vehicles such as brush trucks, tankers, fireboats and ambulances.
