Datebook JCHS to hold School Council Election for Parents Jenkins County High School (JCHS) has scheduled a School Council Parent Election for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, in the school media center. Two parents will be elected to serve on the council for the next school year. Parents or guardians of students enrolled in JCHS are eligible to serve as parent members of the school council. The law excludes parents of students in the school who are also employees of the school system who work at JCHS to be eligible to serve on the council. All eligible parents/guardians are encouraged to attend and participate in the election. JCMS to hold School Council Election for Parents Jenkins County Middle School (JCMS) has scheduled a School Council Parent Election for 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the school media center. Two parents will be elected to serve on the council for the next school year. Parents or guardians of students enrolled at JCMS are eligible to serve as parent members of the school council. The law excludes parents of students who are employees of the school system at JCMS to be eligible to serve on the council. Free Legal Help Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens who want free legal help on a first-come, firstserve basis. Senior citizens, 60 years of age or older, who have a civil (non-criminal) legal issue and want free legal help may meet with a GLSP staff member 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center, 998 College Avenue. The GLSP office that serves Jenkins County is located at 209 Seventh St., Suite 400, Augusta. You may call the office at 1(800) 248-6697 for help with legal problems. Edenfield Family Reunion The 55th annual Edenfield family reunion will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at Magnolia Springs State Park group shelter 2. Baseball Registration The Jenkins County Recreation Department is now holding registration for: fall baseball, ages 8-12; soccer, ages 4-12; football, ages 8-14; and cheerleading, ages 5-12. Participants should go by Sew 'N So, 815 Cotton Avenue, to register and fill out a registration form. A birth certificate is required at the time of sign-up. The deadline for registration is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. HIV Informational Meeting Sisters Informing Sisters About Topics on Aids (SISTA) will hold an informational session for African-American women interested in reducing their risks of HIV infection. The meeting will take place 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the City of Millen Municipal Building on College Avenue.
