Syl-View Happenings Our pride is showing as we learned that the "Bingo Angels," Group Volunteers of the Year, won state honors. They will be recognized and receive a plaque given by Georgia Health Care. The state nominated them to American Health Care and they have been declared winners. The awards luncheon will be held in Boston, Mass. Wednesday, Sept. 12. American Health Care will provide air travel and lodging for two of the group, to Boston, where they will spend Tuesday, Sept. 11, and Wednesday, Sept. 12. This is a very special honor, and it is the second time Syl-View has won. Don Scarborough, Adult Volunteer of the Year, won national honors in 1991. The "Bingo Angels" are Anita Thompson, Dorothe Deal Garrett Jerry Hunter, Nell Anderson, Annie Simmons, Betty Purvis and Margie Berry. They all assist with bingo twice a week, but they support the total Syl-View activity program. Jerry Hunter serves almost every day. He helps serve meals, leads the men's programs and takes part in special events. He also serves as a sponsor for residents with special needs. His wife is also a volunteer at Syl-View. Anita Thompson has been a faithful volunteer who has served for over 20 years. She is a very young 86 years old. She provides refreshments, takes part in the special activities and has been a state volunteer winner for three years. She provides special love and treats for many residents. Dorothe Deal Garrett leads the mission programs, arranges for square dances, helps to provide for special events and promotes the Second Wind Dreams program. She has been a State Volunteer of the Year and a Second Wind Dream Volunteer of the Year. Annie Simmons serves as a volunteer for eight hours a day at least two days a week. She also attends and helps with all of the special events. She escorts residents to and from activities and helps serve the refreshments. Nell Anderson has been a volunteer through the years and has provided assistance at bingo to those with special needs. She helps support the activity program and encourages the staff and the residents. Betty Purvis has been a faithful volunteer as she assists with bingo and helps with all of the special events. She has been a special friend to a number of residents as she escorts them to activities, attends tea parties and helps serve many of the group events. She helps set up the area for worship services. Margie Berry is involved in the church services following the bingo games and she has been a volunteer with her church services at Syl-View through the years. Each one of the "Bingo Angels" is active in the total activity program at Syl-View and they are worthy of praise and this great honor. There have been some very special events at Syl-view including a Ladies Friendship Tea with community volunteers and city leaders attending. But, the highlight of the week was the news that we have the National Volunteer Group of the Year. Thank you for all that you do, and for your interest and prayers. |
