VFW offers $30,000 scholarship to high school students

High school students are eligible to compete for a $30,000 scholarship through the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Speech Contest.

VFW Post 2776 of Millen is sponsoring the "Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition" as part of a national contest. Interested students should write and record a three- to five-minute speech and send it to: VFW, P.O. Box 687, Millen, GA 30442. The topic is "My Role in Honor- ing America's Veterans."

All state winners will receive at least $1,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C.

Middle school students can enter the "Patriot's Pen Essay Competition" by submitting a 300- to 400-word essay on "Why I am an American Patriot" to win prizes, as well.
