4-H News

Anna Burgess County Extension Agent

As most of you know, it's fair season! That means mini-booths are upon us! We have had several come in and get started already, and we haven't even had our first club meeting!

If your child is interested in making a mini-booth for the fair, they are welcome to do it at home or come by the 4-H Office one afternoon a week and work on it. We have had to start putting the students on certain days. So parents, if your child has been in and started working on a project, they were assigned a certain day to come in every week. Please see to it that they only come on that day.

Sigma Lambda Chi, a Greek organization under 4-H which promotes service, citizenship and leadership, has just started up for this year. The officers are president Becca Rich, vice president Justin Lanier, secretary Cierra Joyner, activity leaders LaVonte Lovette and Jessica Herrmann and public relations Krysten Fail. Congratulations to these officers! You can look forward to hearing all about their community projects soon! Sigma is only open to outstanding 4-H'ers in the ninth thru 12th grade. They will participate in monthly community service projects and serve as teen leaders during cloverleaf events.

This is an organization I am very excited to start here. I think these kids can do wonders for themselves and the community with just a little extra push in the right direction. Our second meeting will be next Thursday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.

Starting next week, we will be going into the classrooms for club meetings. I am very excited about this year's meetings. We are going to be doing things a little different in many grades, especially in fifth and eighth grades. Also, we are adding club meetings in the ninth grade. Thanks to Dr. Kirkland for approval and to Ms. Brinson for allowing us to come into her classroom.

There is going to be a lot going on in the upcoming months, so please be looking for event announcements. And don't forget to start working on those mini-booths!
