East Georgia College (EGC) and its new state-of-the-art secure wireless internet access system on campus in Swainsboro and Statesboro were recently spotlighted in the national publication
Campus Technology (August 2007 publication). Under the direction of Mike Rountree, EGC's director of information and instructional technology, both EGC and the Statesboro site are supported by an Enterasys secure network (www.enterasys.- com).
The new technology supports mission-critical initiatives, including a virtual private network (VPN) for communicating securely between the two locations by faculty and staff. An innovative telephone system (VoIP) designed as part of the new network to make the nursing program more widely available.
Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of the new secure
wireless computer system is the ability for students to use laptop computers
with wireless capability on campus, around campus, and in the various buildings.
