Native American Day
The fourth graders at Jenkins County Elementary School celebrated their second Native American Day Friday, Aug. 31. The Indian Day was part of their social studies curriculum. The students enjoyed visiting each of the fourth grade teachers while they created crafts that highlighted various aspects of the Southwest Indian culture, including the surrounding habitat, housing, art, clothing and writing symbols. Students will later use what they have learned to write about Southwest Indians. Shown with a favorite craft are, from left, first row: Amy Whitt and Caleb Lindsey; and back row: Aliah Carter, Ramonie Simmons, Leigh-Anne Oglesby and Justice Williams. (Photo contributed)
