Former resident completes basic training, deployed to Republic of Korea

PV2 Ashley Clifton completed Department of the Army Basic Training June 29, at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. She then attended the United States Army Medical Department Center and School Academy of Health Sciences Department of Veterinary Sciences at Fort Sam Houston in Texas.

Clifton's academic average resulted in her being selected for the commandant's list, which is reserved for the top 20 percent of the graduating class. She was awarded a veterinary food inspection specialist diploma on Aug. 27. She also received an award for outstanding achievement as the platoon guide for her class.

Her duties will be to inspect foods that are procured, transported, stored and issued by the Department of Defense. Clifton will be in charge of the operation of nuclear, biological and chemical detection equipment used in determining the extent of contamination of food and animal food. She will also assist in the prevention and control of food-borne diseases.

Clifton will leave today, (Wednesday, Sept. 19,) for the Republic of Korea, where she will be stationed for one to two years.
