Firefighters receive new equipment
Volunteers from Engine Company 7, (Herndon/Birdsville/Rogers) and Engine Company 9 (Buckhead/Perkins/Red Hill) are shown with 14 new self-contained breathing apparatus recently received through a $51,053 DHS Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant. The new equipment meets all federal and state requirements for firefighter safety and is compatible and interoperable with Millen-Jenkins Fire Rescue equipment and surrounding county fire departments. Engine Company 3 (Oak Hill/Scarboro) will receive their new equipment when the station is opened in the late fall. According to Chief Chuck Lane, the department was able to save approximately $10,000 by piggy-back bidding with other departments. (Photo contributed)
