The Chatter Box
By Deborah Bennett

Effective Oct. 1, single copies of The Millen News will cost 75 cents. This increase is due to the rising costs of gasoline, postal charges and newsprint. The last increase was in October 1998 - nine years ago.

I cannot think of another commodity whose price has remained unchanged for so long. It is still a small price to pay for hometown news that you cannot get anywhere else. If, however, you are a bargain-hunter, you can always purchase a one-year subscription for $19 if you live in the county. That is only 36 cents per copy, delivered to your home!

In addition, effective Oct. 1, copies of The True Citizen will be $1. The Waynesboro newspaper is available at our office, The Quick Stop, Mac's Country Store and Cash Now. It, also, is a bargain for $1.

A word of "thanks" is extended to our store vendors who sell The Millen News in their businesses. We appreciate your making the newspaper available in your establishments: The Quick Stop, Mac's Country Store, Cash Now, Millen Service Station, Rite Aid, Thompson's Corner, Linder Pharmacy, BILO, Bay Station, Time Saver, J.R.'s Service Station, Hud's Service Station, Brinson BBQ, S&S Grocery and Papa's Pizzato Go.

I am sure most of you have noticed the improvements to the railroad crossings on Winthrope Avenue. The detours last week were a small inconvenience to endure while Norfolk Southern crews worked to make the crossing much smoother. "Thank you."
