Datebook Free Legal Help Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens who want free legal help on a first-come, firstserve basis. Senior citizens, 60 years of age or older, who have a civil (non-criminal) legal issue and want free legal help may meet with a GLSP staff member 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center, 998 College Ave., Millen. The GLSP office that serves Jenkins County is located at 209 Seventh St., Suite 400, Augusta. You may call the office at 1(800) 248-6697 for help with legal problems. GED Registration The GED examination will be given at Swainsboro Technical College (STC) Monday, Oct. 8, and Tuesday, Oct. 9. Registration is required, prior to testing. Registration will be held at 9 a.m. in building #8 and at 6 p.m. in building #1, room 1109, on Tuesday, Oct. 2. A picture identification and social security card must be presented and the $95 test fee is due at registration. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. If applicants are 18 or 19 years of age, an official withdrawal from the last school attended must also be presented at registration. Hamburger Helper Grant Millen Woman's Club and Millen Better Hometown have applied for a $5,000 grant from Hamburger Helper Corporation to help fund improvements to the park behind the Millen Community House. A major factor in securing the grant is evidence of community support. Local citizens are encouraged to show their support by going to the website http://www.myhometownhelper. com. Click on "Find a Project." Select "Georgia" and type in "Millen." Click on "Millen Community House Park." There is a place to make a comment in support of the project. Please help by taking a few minutes to do this. The deadline for making comments is Sept. 30. Fair-on-the-Square Parade Any individual or group who is interested in participating in this year's Fair-on-the-Square Parade should contact Cindy Linder at 982-3274. All entries need to have a sign or banner stating their advertisement, name of organization or entry's name. No one under the age of 16 will be allowed to drive or operate a vehicle unless someone 21 years of age or older is accompanying them. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, from Jenkins County High School (JCHS.) All entry vehicles must be at JCHS at 9 a.m. to line up. All riders of vehicles should be at JCHS at 9:30 a.m. Fair-on-the-Square Beauty Pageant The Fair-on-the-Square Beauty Pageant will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Old Pal Civic Center Theater. |
