Fair-on-the-Square to be held Saturday The annual Fair-on-the-Square kicks off 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, on the courthouse square. Among items available will be a variety of crafts, handmade jewelry, leather goods, woodworking, hand painted gourds, toys and home baked goods. There will be pony rides and other rides and games for the children. Sgt. Arthur Milton, a veteran of the Iraq War, and Clay Boulineau, 2007 Citizen of the Year, will be the grand marshals of the parade which begins 10 a.m. The parade will be led by the Jenkins County High School JROTC unit, followed by other local groups. It will begin at the high school and make its way down Gray Street, East on Cotton Avenue, West on Winthrope Avenue, back up Gray Street, ending at the school. Drivers of vehicles that are participating in the parade are asked to assemble no later than 9 a.m. All others are asked to assemble no later than 9:30 a.m. For information or to be in the parade, contact Cindy Linder at (478) 982-3274. Entertainment will begin immediately following the parade. The schedule is: 11 a.m. - Kaye Miller School of Dance; 11:30 a.m. - Will Gay; 12 noon - Ashley Brinson; 12:30 p.m. - Leroy Clayton and The Shade Tree Pickers, Herb and Sue Ann Riechelt; 2 p.m. - Train Town Band featuring Sean Craig, Nick Ellison, Jason Searson and Dick Wilson; 2:30 p.m. - Glen Walden; 3 p.m. - Vicky Bragg; and 3:30 p.m. - Perseverance and God's Gang Band. The Azalea Garden Club will sponsor a Flower Show in the Jenkins County Memorial Library, located adjacent to the courthouse, 12 noon until 4 p.m. The theme will be "The Spirit of October." Several classes of arrangements will be featured. The public is invited to come in and view the arrangements. Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the day shopping and visiting. For the safety and enjoyment of all, silly string, shaving cream battles, wrestling, etc. will not be allowed. |
