Unemployment rate drops in Jenkins

Jenkins County's unemployment rate dropped to 8.6, the fourth highest in the state, for the month of August. The county's rate fell from 10.0 in July, which ranked it third in the state for that month.

Statistics released by the Georgia Department of Labor reveal that approximately 299 local residents were unemployed during the month of August. This was down from 354 for the month of July.

The counties with higher rates than Jenkins for the month of August were: Chattahoochee, 10.0; Burke 9.3; and Jefferson, 8.7. The rates of surrounding counties were: Bulloch, 4.5; Candler, 4.2; Emanuel, 5.7; and Screven, 5.3.

The state unemployment rate for August was 4.5.
