Sheriff completes session of NSI
The NSI is the only national executive development program designed for sheriffs. Sheriff Fields was joined by 26 other sheriffs from across the country to address the pressing issues faced by sheriffs. During the NSI 93rd session, Sheriff Fields and the other sheriffs discussed the numerous ways to respond as leaders to emerging and continuing issues in criminal justice and public safety, such as homeland security, school violence, court security, leadership, drugs, disaster relief, jail operations and community relations in the current context of increased awareness for public safety. Wilson said, "Sheriff Fields is a leader with vision for the Jenkins County Sheriff's Office. It is an honor to have Sheriff Fields join the over 3,000 graduates of the NSI since 1973." Sheriff Fields commented, "There were 26 sheriffs from all over the United States, and it was great being the first from our county and also to have been elected as one of the four officers. I hope this will prepare me to be the best Sheriff I can for the citizens of Jenkins." The NIC is a division of the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons. The NIC has been a long-time sponsor of the NSI and is the premier national resource for jail operations, jail design and programming.
