Syl-View Happenings Days are filled with joy at Syl-View, as we prepare to attend the awards luncheon in Atlanta to receive the awards won by our volunteers. Jordan Zeigler will be named "Teen Volunteer of the Year" for the state. The Bingo Angels will accept the honor "Group Volunteer of the Year" for the state, and then Dorothe Garrett will attend American Health Care Convention in Boston, Mass., where the group will receive national honors. Radio station WZBXWSYL will be named Best in Radio for their support and coverage of Syl-View activities. Syl-View is also in the top three in the state for Total Community Involvement. We appreciate all of our volunteers and their service. We recently enjoyed a concert of religious music by Andy Perryman. Andy is the son of resident Daisy Perryman. The solarium was filled with residents, family members and friends. Rosie Jones encouraged him with her words of praise and prayer. Mr. K and the Screven Squares entertained on Square Dance Night. Jordan Zeigler and Amanda Long, youth volunteers, sang for the group. We invite those of all ages to join us and dance, sing or just enjoy the program. The refreshments were provided by the McBride United Methodist Church. The youth of the Buck Creek Methodist Church helped to tidy up the courtyard and lawn. This helps to make a nice area for the residents to relax and enjoy. The residents love to see the children as they run and play. Mr. Hatcher's collards are ready for harvest, and this is a dream-come-true for him to be able to plant and grow collards, as this was part of his lifestyle. Doug Schriner leads the music for our worship services and blesses us with special music from time to time. He also joins Mr. K's special music programs, as they blend their voices in song. We were thrilled that our adopted team, the Georgia Bulldogs, won their game. We have promised to pray for and support them, and our residents enjoy our pep rallies and tailgate parties. We receive letters from Mark Richt, and they bring enjoyment. We enjoyed the day at the Sylvania Sampler, and many stopped by to look at the pictures of residents, staff and volunteers featured on our display. We are grateful for our partnership with the Sylvania Junior Woman's Club. They accord us the privilege of having a display at the Sampler and support so many of our Syl-View activities. I will be attending the Activities Conference in Atlanta, and it's always good to see other activity directors and learn from the conferences offered. It will be a special treat to see our volunteers recognized at the awards luncheon. I'll share some of the highlights of the convention next week. Please come and visit us soon. |
