Datebook Prayer Meeting for Jobs to be held Oct. 21 A countywide "Prayer Meeting for Jobs" is being planned for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Olde Pal Civic Center Theater on Cotton Avenue. Watch The Millen News in coming weeks for additional details. Last Chance for Cake Auction Friday, Oct. 12, will be the last chance to bid in the "Cakes for Books Auction." Stop by the Jenkins County Memorial Library between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., place a bid and have a delicious caramel, pound, chocolate, coconut or lemon cheese cake delivered to you Saturday, Oct. 13. Through a matching doubled grant from the Libri Foundation, up to $1,000 could be received for new children's books. The Friends of the Library urge everyone to support this project. '39ers The '39ers will hold a covered dish luncheon noon Monday, Oct. 15, at the Millen Community House. Visitors are welcome. Hunter Education Course The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will offer a test and review for hunters taking the "Hunter Education" Internet course. The review and test will be held 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Magnolia Springs State Park. Those interested in the new Internet course should go to www.beasafehunter.org. After completing all lessons and the review test, students should print out and sign the "Hunter Education Final Report and Affidavit" and bring it with them to the class. Participants taking the test for the Internet "Hunter Education" course must pre-register. Participants can register at no cost by going to www.georgiawildlife.com and clicking on the course registration icon. You may also call 1(800) 864-7275 and an operator will register you for the "Hunter Education" course for a small fee. Fall Festival Dry Branch Baptist Church will hold their annual "Fall Festival" Saturday, Oct. 27. The festivities will begin at 3 p.m. and conclude late that evening with a hayride. There will be food, games and prizes for the kids, and many other activities for the whole family to enjoy.
The festival is always a wonderful time of fun and fellowship. Pastor Brad Boynton invites everyone to participate in this event. The cost of admission for the "Fall Festival" is three canned foods per adult and two canned foods per child. All food collected will be donated to the Jenkins County Resource Center for their food bank. |
