Local resident places in duathlon Jim Hite took third place in agegroup 70-74 at the Powerman Ohio Duathlon held Sept. 30 at Malabar Farm State Park near Mansfield, an event that served as the USA Triathlon long course national championship. Jim covered the 8 kilometer run/58 kilometer bike/8 kilometer run (5 miles/36 miles/5 miles) in four hours, 19 minutes and 31 seconds. Temperatures in the mid- 40s did not make up for the extremely difficult and hilly terrain on both the run and bike courses, with grades up to 17 percent on the run and even higher on parts of the bike course. Over 300 athletes, from elite professionals to age-group competitors took part in Powerman Ohio and the accompanying halfdistance Mohican Valley Duathlon. Powerman Ohio is one of seven Powerman events held around the world in 2007, including Alabama, which Jim did in April, as well as Austria, Germany, Holland, Luxembourg and Malaysia. |
