Lady Eagles head to state
The Jenkins County High School Lady Eagles placed third in Region competition this past week and are heading to the State play-offs Friday and Saturday in Dublin. Lady Eagles players shown with their trophy, from left, are sitting: Keeley Sapp, Lindsay Purvis, Brookes Brinson and Dorothy Davis; and standing: Mackenzie Walker, Whitley Clark, Molly Edenfield, Christian Chance, Ayana Walker, Zandra Lake, Courtnei Earls, Crysalyn Walker, Jeather Johnson, Lindsay Hall and Jillian Gaiser. Not pictured: Krista Gay. Prior to the region tournament, the team was ranked fifth, but the girls played exceptionally well, winning three out of five games, beating Portal, Claxton and Calvary. The wins brought them to a third place finish. The team's only losses came against the tough Savannah Country Day team. During this past week's tournament; leading batting averages were Zandra Lake (.357) and Lindsay Purvis(.308). Both had two runs batted in each. The Lady Eagles will play 6 p.m. Friday against Bacon County. (Photo by Mike Dann)
