4-H'ers who completed their mini-booth and set them up at the fair were rewarded with a trip to the fair. There were 42 students who participated in the trip. (Photo contributed)
This past month, the fifthgrade club meetings focused on manners. I was very impressed with the students when I watched them use their best manners in the cafeteria. Parents, please encourage your fifth-graders to practice using the manners we discussed in class.

On Oct. 10, as a reward, we took 42 students who completed and set up their mini-booths to the Statesboro fair. I don't know how many of you have ever tried taking that many students to the fair, but as usual, it was quite an adventure. Everyone got to see their exhibits, what place they had won and ride as many rides as they could. Except for one getting a little sick and almost losing another, it was a great trip.

4-H'ers: Don't forget about the Pumpkin Decorating Contest!! Pumpkins are due Monday, Oct. 29. Drop them off at the 4- H Office. They will be judged Tuesday and displayed at the Harvest of Fun festival downtown. The categories to enter your pumpkin are: Ugliest, Most Creative, Best of Show, Scariest, Funniest, 4-H Club Theme, Most Original, and School Spirit. Start now planning your design.

On Nov. 2, we will have our Cloverleaf Halloween Dance/ Costume Contest. This is for fifth- and sixth-grade 4-H'ers only. The Junior 4-H'ers and Sigma will be putting on the dance. There is a $3 charge to cover supplies and munchies! The dance will be in the Ag Center from 7-9 p.m. If you want to go you must come by the 4-H Office, sign up and pay your money as soon as possible.

If you have been collecting pop tabs, thank you! We have had several bags turned in already. We will be collecting them throughout the month. Fifthgrade: Remember that the club who collects the most will win "Club of the Month."

During November, we will be collecting canned food items for the local food pantry. The Collegiate 4-H Club at Georgia Southern is partnering with us to collect as many items as possible.

Juniors & Seniors who want to participate in DPA need to start coming in and working on their portfolios. They must be submitted in about 5 weeks. That sounds like a long time but it will be here before you know it!!

**Correction: There was a typo in last week's paper. Winner of the "Most Educational" certificate in the Junior Division for her mini-booth was Tonya Lane.
