Ever wonder what helped lay the foundation for the plantation system in the Old South? I bet you never thought that deerskins had anything to do with it! If you'd like to find out how the seeds were planted, come in to the Screven County Library on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. and listen to Dr. Jonathon Bryant discuss the genesis of the plantation economy in the South. This program is part of the "Southeast Georgia on Our Minds" series, a collaborative effort between the Screven- Jenkins Regional Library System and Georgia Southern's Humanities Department, funded by the Georgia Humanities Council.

Ever wonder about the origins of Halloween, or how it's celebrated around the world? Come to the library and you'll find information about the history of Halloween, various ways to enjoy it and lots of fun ways to decorate for it!

Story time is at 4 p.m. Wednesdays - bring your little ones to share in the fun as they hear a story and do a cute seasonal craft!

Are you an artist or a crafter? Do you have a great collection that you'd like to share with people? The library is looking for people to exhibit their work or collections in 2008! Just call 982-4244 to schedule your display.

Dial-a-Story is a great solution for those days when you just don't have the time to read your child a bedtime story. Just call 982-5898 and listen to a new story every week.

CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS, CHANGE YOUR LIFE by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. Dr. Dyer has read hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching, and from it he has created 81 essays on the nature of our existence and how to find peace by living in harmony with the natural world.

Website for a national student campaign to reduce college textbook costs. Features a discussion of why textbooks are expensive (such as new editions and supplementary material,) suggestions for finding cheaper books and saving money (such as buying or renting online,) reports on topics such as publishers' pricing tactics, and links to news about legislative activity. A joint campaign of various student organizations throughout the U.S.
