Syl-View Happenings
By Betty Scarborough

It's been a busy day at Syl- View. I was away for the Activity Convention in Norcross, and was happy to see Bonnie of Bethany Home in Millen. We met together with our East Central Council. It was a special day, as Syl-View award winners and their family members came to attend the awards luncheon. Our teen volunteer, Jordan Zeigler, had her mother, daddy, grandmother and friend, Amanda Long, with her. Toni R. Ellison, our administrator, brought Annie Simmons, Betty Purvis and Margie Berry with her. Jerry Hunter, his wife, daughter and son-in-law were present. Don Scarborough was there to take pictures. So, with me, there were 15 from Syl- View.

Dorothe and Bill Garrett went to Boston to represent the Syl-View Bingo Angels as they received national honors. They brought back a beautiful plaque for our halls and they had a wonderful time, as they were treated like royalty. They brought a magazine from longterm care professionals, "The Provider," as it contained a listing of the national winners and the Bingo Angels were featured as the "Volunteer Group of the Year."

We honored our winners at the October square dance. There was singing and dancing, and Farmdale Baptist Church served as host, providing and serving refreshments.

We celebrated Columbus Day with a party. Mr. K and resident volunteer Doug Schriner provided the entertainment, and the group enjoyed pound cake baked by Jerry Hunter, wings from Wall's Diner, ice cream provided by Anita Thompson and punch made by Betty Sue Parker. Ann Woods gave a poem she had learned in school years ago.

We had Teddy Day, and many of the residents brought their teddy bears to activities. We can always use stuffed toys as comfort items for our residents. If you would buy one and bring to us, it would be appreciated.

The holiday season is upon us, and we encourage you to make a visit to Syl-View during the holidays. We will be delighted to see you. Keep us in your prayers.
