Lady Eagles' season ends The Jenkins County High School Lady Eagles' softball team went into the South Sectional State Tournament with very high hopes of pulling off a few big wins and trying to advance to the elite eight of the state tournament. The Lady Eagles came out playing excellent ball against a very competitive squad from Bacon County but lost this game 1-0. Both teams played outstanding ball. The Lady Eagles could not get the key hit to pull off the victory. The next morning, the Lady Eagles came out and beat Chattahoochee County 11-1 in five innings. There was excellent hitting, pitching and defense in this game. Next, the Lady Eagles had to face a very tough Irwin County team. A win would have kept the Lady Eagles hopes alive but lost 10-1 to a very good hitting Irwin County squad. For the tournament, Ayana Walker lead the team with a. 750 batting average. Lindsay Purvis batted .333, and Whitley Clark batted .250. Lindsay and Ayana also tied for the most hits during this tournament with three apiece. In the final season team totals, Lindsay Purvis led the team with a .333 batting average and also led the team with 15 RBI's. Freshman Mackenzie Walker was next with a battering average of .273. Mackenzie was also second on the team with 12 RBI's along with Dee Dee Davis. Coach Linda Sanders would like to wish all her seniors good luck down the road with whatever they chose to do in life. "The seniors will be missed, but there is also a great group of girls coming back for next season," she said. |
