Veteran's Day Ceremony at JCHS

The Jenkins County High School (JCHS) Interact Club will sponsor a Veteran's Day Ceremony Friday, Nov. 9. The program will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

The purpose of the ceremony is to honor veterans from Millen and Jenkins County. There will be music and a color guard to open the program. A member of the JCHS Interact Club will give a brief history of Veteran's Day. The most important part of the program will be the introduction of the veterans in attendance.

If you are a veteran, or if you know a veteran who would like to attend, please call Joyce Lanier at 982-4791 to have your space reserved. In order to have your name included in the program, please call by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Millen UMC Yard Sale

Millen United Methodist Church will hold a church-wide yard sale 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, Nov. 3. The public is invited to come and check out the treasures and finds.

Christmas Bazaar

A Christmas Bazaar will be held 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the fellowship hall of Millen Baptist Church. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Christmas gifts and food items, as well as a soup-andsandwich lunch, will be available for a reasonable donation to the Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions.

Hunter Education Course

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will offer a test and review for hunters taking the Hunter Education Internet course. The review and test will be given 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Magnolia Springs State Park. Those interested in the new Internet course should go to www.beasafehunter. org. After completing all lessons and the review test, students should print the "Hunter Education Final Report and Affidavit," sign it, and bring it with them to the class.

Participants taking the test for the Internet Hunter Education course must pre-register. Participants can register at no cost by going to www.georgiawildlife. com and click on the course registration icon. You may also call 1(800) 864-7275 to register for the Hunter Education course for a small fee.

EQIP applications due Nov. 1

James E. Tillman Sr., state conservationist for the USDANatural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Georgia, announced Thursday, Oct. 4, that 2008 Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) applications are due by Thursday, Nov. 1, to be considered for funding this fiscal year.

Applications can be taken at all NRCS offices and USDA service centers. Statewide EQIP practices include, but are not limited to: grassed waterways, waste storage facilities, terracing, pest management, ag drainage wellhead protection and pasture management, tree planting, windbreaks, strip-cropping, conservation tillage, organic crop production and wildlife habitat management. This list will vary from county-to-county, based on locally identified resource concerns. More information on NRCS conservation programs can be found at www.ga.nrcs.usda.gov under programs.

Free Legal Help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens who want free legal help on a first-come, firstserve basis. Senior citizens, 60 years of age or older, who have a civil (non-criminal) legal issue and want free legal help may meet with a GLSP staff member 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center, 998 College Avenue.

The GLSP office that serves Jenkins County is located at 209 Seventh St., Suite 400, Augusta. You may call the office at 1(800) 248-6697 for help with legal problems.

GED Registration

Swainsboro Technical College

STC) will hold GED registration Monday, Nov. 5, for GED day and evening testing. The GED examination will be given at STC on Monday, Nov. 12, and Tuesday, Nov. 13. Registration is required prior to testing.

Registration will be held on Monday, Nov. 5, at 9 a.m. in building #8 and at 6 p.m. in building #1, room 1109. A picture identification and social security card must be presented and the $95 test fee is due at registration.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. If applicants are 18 or 19 years old, an official withdrawal from the last school attended must also be presented at registration.

JCHS Class of '96 Reunion

The Jenkins County High School Class of 1996 Reunion will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Coleman's Lake Restaurant, Midville. Everyone will be responsible for paying for their buffet meal that night.
