Ella Lanier Johnson, 74, of Millen died Oct. 27

Mrs. Ella Lanier Johnson, 74, of Millen died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at Bethany Nursing Center after an extended illness.

Her funeral was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with the Revs. Thomas Simmons and Ray Freeman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Jenkins County Dec. 31, 1932. She retired from Jockey International, Inc. in 1973, and she was a homemaker. Mrs. Johnson was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Susie Lanier and Mabel Lanier.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, James E. Johnson; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bunny Johnson of Millen; three granddaughters, Tabatha (Jamie) Bennett of Garfield, Monica (Chris) Broxton of Millen and Tiffany Johnson, also of Millen; four great-grandchildren, Tristan and Abby Bennett of Garfield and Colby and Paul Broxton of Millen; two sisters, Opal Lanier Hall and Judy Lanier Phillips, both of Millen; and many nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers were Mike Newton, Ronnie Bazemore, Joseph Bazemore, Scott Phillips, Steven Johnson, J.P. Owens, Tony Felix, Steve Hendley and Larry Hall.
