County adopts millage rate

During a called meeting held Thursday, Nov. 8, the Jenkins County Commissioners officially adopted a millage rate for fiscal year 2007-2008 of 10.55 mils. The previous year's millage rate was 15.75 mils.

The commissioners decided to roll back the county's millage rate to compensate for property value increases brought about by a state-required property re-evaluation. It is predicted that the rolled back rate will net the county only $37 more in local taxes than the previous year.

Local taxes collected fiscal year 2006-2007 amounted to $2,398,513. Anticipated local revenues for fiscal year 2007-2008 is $2,398,550.

The last tax increase the county imposed was in 2003.
