High school to host ROTC program

Ruth Hearn, guidance counselor at Jenkins County High School (JCHS), announced that it will host "The Path to Leadership: ROTC Leadership for College and Career Success," a free, evening presentation for parents and their 10th through 12th grade students, 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. Monster, Making It Count will deliver this presen- tation for the first time to high schools across the nation, and JCHS is one of the first schools to have the opportunity to present the program, according to Ms. Hearn.

The program gives parents and students a comprehensive understanding of the leadership development and future career opportunities that college military leadership programs, such as Army ROTC, can offer. Recent polls have indicated that military officership is regarded by adults and teenagers alike as one of the most prestigious occupations in the United States. Because of this, school officials feel that informing parents and students of the advantages that college military leadership programs, like Army ROTC, can offer for success in college and career is important. The program is being presented in conjunction with Army ROTC, one of the most successful leadership programs in the country, creating leaders who go on to rewarding careers in the military and civilian worlds.

More information about the presentation can be found online at www.makingitcount.com/leadership. All sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited to attend, as well as their parents.
