Christmas in Millen slated for Dec. 7 The Christmas season will officially get underway locally with the annual Christmas in Millen celebration 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, on Cotton Avenue. The event is sponsored by the Millen/Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce and Millen Better Hometown. Activities planned include street music in the open air on the train-viewing platform. Performers will include the Millen United Methodist Church and Millen Baptist Church Chorus and others. Santa will be on hand for photographs and to hear children's Christmas wishes and the Millen Fire Department's Christmas Train will be running as well as some fun rides from Carter's Rock'n Rides. Several businesses will also be open for extended hours to accommodate shoppers. Hotdogs, chili, Cokes and hot chocolate will be available from the chamber. The annual Memorial Tree lighting will be held 5:30 p.m. on Cotton Avenue. Tree lights and Star lights can be purchased at the chamber office. Tree lights are $15, and Star lights are $25. The deadline for purchasing lights in memory or in honor of loved ones is Wednesday, Dec. 5. Proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship to help a Jenkins County student further his/her education. |
