Bennett receives GSBA award Deborah Bennett, editor of The Millen News, was honored by the Georgia School Boards Association for her exceptional work in the field of education reporting at the GSBA/Georgia School Superintendents Association Annual Conference held in Atlanta Nov. 30 through Dec. 1. Bennett was awarded the GSBA Beacon Award, which is given annually to media organizations, individual reporters or editors who have shown a willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to report educational issues to their communities. The Jenkins County Board of Education nominated Bennett for the award because of the dedication she has shown to her profession and to providing citizens with thorough and accurate information about the school system. Five awards were presented in the field of print media. "I appreciate the nomination by our local board of education and the recognition from such a prestigious organization as the GSBA," commented Bennett. GSBA is a voluntary association of Georgia's 180 local boards of education. It provides programs, training and services to assist boards in governing local school systems. |
