Beta Club gathers donations for UNICEF This year, the JCHS Beta Club participated in "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" Beta Club members collected donations from faculty, staff, students and community members in an effort to help UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, increase its efforts to prevent suffering of children around the world. The club collected $233.00, enough to immunize 466 children against polio! Most of the funds raised came from the daily donations of students at the high school- over 30 pounds of "loose" change was collected during the week of Halloween. Millions of children die needlessly from preventable causesbecause they lack simple things like clean drinking water, basic childhood medical attention, even mosquito netting to prevent malaria. UNICEF's goal is simple-do whatever it takes to save these children. Only UNICEF has the global experience, resources and reach to give children the best hope for survival. Since its inception in 1957 "Trick-or Treat for UNICEF, has collected over $136 million to protect millions of children around the world! This year the JCHS Beta Club is sponsored by Nancy Deal and will be inducting new members during the Spring Semester. |
