City to re-bid USDA sewer/waste project
By Deborah Bennett Millen News Editor

Millen City Council will rebid its USDA sewer/waste water treatment project using two different designs to regulate water flow. The decision was made during council's Tuesday, Dec. 4 meeting.

Bubba Small, city utilities director, suggested bidding the project as currently designed with lift stations, but also bidding it with the lift stations re- moved and an earthen dike added. The proposal with related engineering costs was approved.

Council was informed that the CSI software had been purchased with training of employees on the new system to begin soon. The system was expected to be functional the first week in January.

Other action taken by council included the appointment of James Ford and Lee Ward Williams to serve on the Millen Housing Authority board of directors and the approval of a $50,000 increase to the Department of Transportation in connection with the relocation of water/sewer lines on U.S. Highway 25 for the Savannah River Parkway.

Discussion of public nuisances and the Brownfield grant was tabled due to the absence of city administrator Al Knight.
