Love came down to Syl-View at Christmas, just as it has all through the year. The people of the community are bringing comfort and joy to the residents and staff.

The season began the day after Thanksgiving as staff, residents and volunteers gathered to decorate the trees. Betty Sue Parker made punch, and there were cookies all ready to serve on a table decorated with Christmas colors. Mr. K and Doug Schriner blended their voices as they sang Christmas carols. Staff and volunteers were busy, as they decked the halls for the holidays. It was a beautiful time.

With the trees all aglow, the community-resident luncheon was held Friday, Nov. 30. The tables were covered with red cloths and centered with arrangements of red berries and greenery. Alan Mitchell of Milledgeville entertained, as he sang and played the piano and sax for the guests' dining pleasure.

Some of the lights on the tree were in memory of Marie Dwelle, given by her daughter, Jean Cowart. Marie was a volunteer at Syl-View for many years.

Ms. Syl-View 2007, Ella Ree Chance, and Ms. Syl-View 2006, Alma Almand, had ringside seats. The Bingo Angels, who won "National Volunteer Group of the Year," were honored, as were the "Employees of the Year."

We had the mayor of Sylvania, Margaret Evans; Rep. Jon Burns; Chairman of the Screven County Board of Commissioners J.C. Warren; and Agnes Tebeau, representing the Screven County Chamber of Commerce; as well as community volunteers sharing a meal with the residents.

We recently celebrated with "Gifts for Light." There was standing room only as family and friends gathered to provide a visit and a gift for our residents. There was music, refreshments and a feeling of Christmas.

We also recently held our Christmas Square Dance, as the dancers twirled to the music in their colorful outfits. Jordan Zeigler, "Teen State Volunteer of the Year," entertained with Christmas music. Willene Dickey of Walls' Diner provided refreshments.

DeLoach Music of Statesboro helped when Mr. K had an amp go out during a birthday celebration for Charlie Massey. So, we are blessed beyond measure, as those from the area minister.

The Edmund Burke Chapter of the DAR visited and presented gifts to the residents. As you can see, our days have been filled to overflowing and so, forgive me please, for missing some of the newspaper deadlines. Please come and visit us soon, and help us celebrate the season.
