Letter to the Editor This letter is much overdue! First of all, I would like to applaud everyone who had anything to do with the "Judgment House" play back in November. I am a youth leader for my church in Rocky Ford, and have always wanted to take our youth to this play and was never able until this year! I was very, very impressed with all aspects of this play. I had several youth who were moved by it and have made professions of faith. Hats off to you all! Secondly, I would like to address "our hometown of Millen." Yes, we are a small town! Yes, we've had many businesses close or on the verge of closing recently! I am in agreement we do need to work on this. However, let's look at what we do have ... We have a community that cares about the needs of others. When someone's house burns, or is critically ill or injured, we all pull together and support these families. Our school just had a brand new gym built! We have a Family Enrichment Center that provides programs for our youth and families! We have community events for our youth and citizens (Fourth of July Celebration, Relay for Life, Harvest Festival and Christmas in Millen by downtown merchants.) Our library provides programs for youth and adults to enjoy. Our Senior Citizen Center has meals and activities for our senior adults! We have restored our historic Pal Theatre that has numerous events during the year. Planters EMC & Farm Bureau have annual programs. We have Magnolia Springs State Park for family and civic functions. I could go on and on, but think you see where I am going. We tend to look at the glass as half empty - not half full! We have so much to be thankful for, and sometimes fail to look at the sunny side of life! Yes, our community needs some work! But I, for one, think we are on the right track. As long as we are concentrating on our youth and families, and our churches are working together on various projects, we are headed in the right direction. I have faith that God will help this community grow and prosper! Millen is a great place to live and raise children, and I am proud of our city and county!
