Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

We will be voting soon, and I would like to encourage everyone to vote yes on the SPLOST issue. The reason I support the one percent local tax is because my property taxes are so high now that I can barely pay them. The county commissioners have done their best to keep taxes down, but without the money from the SPLOST, taxes will have to be raised. No matter how much we dislike taxes, the government has to have enough money to operate, and it has to come from somewhere. The SPLOST is only one dollar on every 100 dollars spent, and everyone pays (not just the property owners.) It is a fair tax, because everyone who does business or buys goods in the county pays, and it also brings in money from outside the county. It is an easy tax to pay because you pay it a few pennies at a time, rather than a huge lump sum at the end of the year.

Thanks to all of you who have contacted me with your ideas about making the local situation better and, no, I have not seen advertised in the paper or heard anything announced on the radio about Town Hall meetings in the near or distant future. It will probably happen soon if you keep calling and making requests to the county commissioners and city council. Together we can make things better and it is important to vote yes for SPLOST.
